Quai Branly Museum
Architect Jean Nouvel wanted to express the essence of the native cultures of Africa, Asia, Oceania, and the Americas, featured in the museum, through the environmental colour approach of the architecture of the building. Therefore, Alain Bony took inspiration from the colours of nature, soil, wood, sun… some of the elements which represent the native art and cultures, for the several boxes inlaid into the facade of the museum. Specially red and yellow, which represented sacred colours, meaning spiritual and emotional life correspondingly.
These colours have been also reproduced at the interior of the museum. The furniture intervention for the Restaurant Les Ombres mimics the shadows of the ceiling’s structure while it also reinterprets the shadows of the iconic Eiffel Tower, located a few steps away, making it a space of distinctive signature.
